Is it time?

Does your roofline need replacing?

Your roofline holds your gutters and protects the ends of your rafters. These are the signs it’s struggling.

Flaking or rotten boards

Peeling paint, soft wood or splits in the fascia mean water is already getting into the timber.

Gutters that overflow or drip

Water spilling over the edge or dripping from the joints soaks the walls below and can lead to damp inside.

Sagging gutters

A gutter that dips or pulls away usually has failing brackets, or a fascia too weak to hold them.

Birds or wasps in the eaves

Gaps in old soffits let birds, wasps and damp into the roof space.

Your options

Choose your board material

Two choices for the fascia and soffit boards. Guttering comes in uPVC or aluminium, matched to the boards you choose. We bring samples to your free survey.

Best for: Most homes — the low-maintenance choice that never needs painting.

A new tiled extension roof with fresh roofline

What you get

What’s included in a new roofline

The boards are only as good as the timber they’re fixed to.

  • Old fascias, soffits and gutters taken down and taken away
  • Rafter ends checked, with rotten timber repaired — and you told first
  • New fascias and soffits fixed securely into sound timber
  • Ventilation at the eaves where your roof needs it
  • New gutters and downpipes set to the right fall
  • The bottom row of tiles and felt tidied where they meet the new fascia
  • Everything cleared away before we leave

Watch out for cover-up boards

Some fitters cap new plastic straight over rotten timber. It looks fine on the day, but the rot carries on behind it. Ask any roofer whether the old boards are coming off.

FAQs

Common roofline questions

Fascias are the boards along the edge of the roof that the gutters fix to. Soffits are the boards underneath, closing off the overhang. Together they protect the ends of the rafters and let air into the roof space.

Yes. If the fascias are sound, District Roofing can replace the gutters and downpipes on their own. If the fascia is rotten we will tell you, because new gutters need something solid to fix to.

uPVC is the best value and suits most homes. Metal is slimmer and sharper and suits modern houses and extensions, but costs more. We bring samples of both to your free survey.

We take the old boards off wherever we can, so the rafter ends can be checked and any rot dealt with. Capping over rotten timber only hides the problem.

Yes, but it is a separate job rather than part of the roofline. We fit uPVC, James Hardie Plank and Cedral Click cladding, often at the same time as the fascias and guttering so the colours match. See our cladding page for the options.
