Is it time?

Is your conservatory too hot, too cold or too loud?

These are the reasons people come to us. A solid roof fixes all four.

Too hot in summer

Glass and polycarbonate let the sun straight in, so the room is unusable on a warm afternoon.

Too cold in winter

The heat goes straight out through the roof, so the room sits empty from October to April.

Noisy when it rains

Rain on a plastic roof is loud enough to drown out the TV. A tiled roof is as quiet as the rest of the house.

Leaking or discoloured

Old panels go cloudy, seals fail and water finds its way in round the edges.

Your options

Choose your new roof

Three ways to go. We’ll recommend one at your free survey.

A conservatory converted to a solid tiled lean-to roof

Tiled roof

Best for: Most conservatories — the room feels like part of the house.

A new insulated roof finished in tiles, so it keeps heat in, keeps sun out and matches the house.

Tiled roof with rooflights

Best for: Rooms where you want the warmth of a solid roof and still plenty of daylight.

The same insulated tiled roof, with one or more rooflights set into it to let light in.

What you get

What’s included in a conservatory roof conversion

The new roof is only part of the job. What’s underneath matters just as much.

  • The old glass or polycarbonate roof taken off and taken away
  • The frame and walls checked they can carry a solid roof — and you told first if anything needs strengthening
  • A new timber roof structure built on top
  • Insulation, a breathable membrane and battens
  • Your chosen tiles, rooflights or flat roof covering
  • New gutters and fascias to finish the edge
  • The site cleared and checked before we leave

Check the frame can take the weight

A solid roof is much heavier than glass. The frame, walls and base need checking before anything goes on. Ask any roofer whether their price includes that check.

Fitted new roof to conservatory

“Fantastic job. They quickly identified that the existing roof had an insufficient fall and not enough support beams to prevent the roof sagging and pooling. They proposed removing the existing roof and timber work replacing with new beams and a new felt roof. It looks great and we are very happy with the end result. They completed the work in one day and left the site tidy afterwards. Id have no hesitation in recommending”

Roofing work

“The work to be carried out was agreed in advance and my personal preferences were entertained even though they weren't the easiest options. When the work started, it was carried out very efficiently by a good-natured team that were very respectful and polite. The quality of the work was very good and I am very pleased with the results. When I questionned anything, I was given good answers and responses.”

FAQs

Common conservatory roof questions

It will be darker than a glass roof, but most people find it far more usable. Rooflights let plenty of daylight back in, and we can talk through where to put them at the survey.

Usually, yes. Changing a glass or polycarbonate roof to a solid one normally needs building regulations approval because the structure and insulation change. We tell you at the survey what applies to your conservatory.

Yes. An insulated solid roof keeps heat in during winter and keeps the sun out in summer, so the room can be used all year.

Most can, as long as the frame, walls and base can carry the extra weight. We check that at the free survey and tell you honestly if yours can't.

A new roof system can come with a guarantee of up to 25 years on workmanship and materials, depending on the system used. The exact terms are written into your quote.
